What Is Room Selection?

Room Selection is a lottery process where eligible returning students select their housing assignment for the next academic year through the Housing Portal (via MySlice). Room selection is separated into rounds. Once students select a room, they are done and do not move on to later rounds.

For 2025 the rounds are (1) Living Learning Community (LLC) round and (2) Campus-Wide round.

Here is a quick overview of Room Selection 2025:

  • Complete the Housing Application (available now on the Housing Portal).
      • Priority Deadline – March 12, 2025. Students are encouraged to complete the housing application as soon as possible and no later than March 12 to participate in room selection fully.
      • Please note that students who complete their applications after the priority deadline will still be able to join Room Selection as late participants, however they may receive a later timeslot and will not be able to apply to a Living Learning Community.
  • Participate in the Roommate Matching process.
    • The Roommate Matching process will become available to you once you complete the application. You will be able to search for compatible roommates or locate specific students you already know to form roommate groups.
    • Roommate Matching will remain open throughout Room Selection to allow students to make changes to their roommate groups as needed. Rooms must be filled to capacity during selection.
  • Participate in Room Selection by selecting a room during one of two rounds:
    • LLC round – March 18
    • Campus-wide round – Week of March 24 (timeslot for selection based on randomly assigned appointments)

Eligibility Settings:

During Room Selection, students will see room availability based on eligibility settings:

LLC Participants
Students who applied for a Living Learning Community on their Housing Application will see rooms specific to the community they are approved for.

2-year Requirement Students and First-Year Transfer Students
Students will be able to select single or multi-person rooms on North Campus (including suites and apartment-style options), as well as 2- or 3-bedroom apartments or Skyhall singles on South Campus.

Non-Requirement Upper-Class Students
Students will be able to select South Campus locations only including 1-, 2-, or 3-bedroom apartments or Skyhall singles.

Room Selection Planning:

It is important to have a plan going into Room Selection to ensure you are prepared. The tips below will help you make sure you are prepared before your selection round.

  • Consider what types of rooms would you like to select. It is important to keep your options open as not all room types will be available at your selection time.
    • Make sure you know what options are available to you during selection. Remember that room options display based on availability, eligibility settings (see overview above), and group size.
  • Start thinking now about your roommate(s). Once the housing application is completed, you can start to look for and connect with other students who have also completed their application using the Roommate Matching process.
    • Make sure prior to your Room Selection round that you have formed your roommate group in the Housing Portal. Roommate group sizes must match the room capacity size for rooms to select during Room Selection.
    • Only the group leader will be able to select the room during Room Selection. Group leadership can be passed as needed, so discuss with your roommate group who will sign in to select during your round. Once the group is assigned a room, no other selections can occur.
  • Don’t rely on word of mouth! The Housing Office is happy to answer questions about the room selection process.
