First-Year and Transfer Students

New students (not arriving early for athletics, international student orientation, marching band, or other Pre-Welcome Programs) will be assigned a move-in date and time according to the home state/territory they call home. The timeslot will be communicated by email to the student’s syr.edu University email address in mid-July.

Students, families, and supporters are encouraged to make travel arrangements according to the move-in date once they receive the assigned time via email. Move-in times will vary and are carefully scheduled to reduce congestion on the floors and elevators. Request to change move-in times are not typically granted unless for extreme circumstances.

Returning students

Returning students will be eligible to move into their on-campus housing assignment beginning Friday, August 23 at 9:00 a.m. Students living in South Campus apartments are eligible to begin moving in starting Thursday, August 22 at 9:00 a.m.

No exceptions are granted for an earlier move-in arrangement unless students are part of a sponsored Early Arrival Group.

Move-In Schedule

  • Early Arrival: August 16-19
    • Please review the New Student Move-In page for information specific to your group.
    • Only for students’ part of a sponsored early arrival group.
        • Students who do not have confirmation they are in a sponsored early arrival group should not arrive to campus early.
        • Instead, please contact your group leader to ensure you are approved.
        • Early Arrival Groups must be registered with the Housing Office for the participants to be authorized for early move-in.
  • New Student Move-In: August 19-21
    • Based on the assigned move-in timeslot provided via email in mid-July.
  • Returning Student (South Campus Apartment): August 22-25
    • No arrival pass is required.
  • Returning Student (Residence Hall): August 23-25
    • No arrival pass is required.
