GRADUATE STUDENTS


Graduate housing is available on campus for students looking for a residential living and learning experience. Located within South Campus the Slocum Heights area offers limited graduate student housing in one bedroom apartments.

The Housing Office supports the mission of the Office of Residence Life and believes that the residential environment is an integral part of the universities educational experience.

The Slocum Heights area of South Campus is made up of 35 buildings with 8-12 apartments in each consisting of both Graduate and Undergraduate students.

Each building has a laundry room with two washers and two dryers for residents of the building to use. The machines are coin operated. All utilities are included along with lawn care and snow removal.

The apartments are all furnished. Kitchen appliances include a gas stove and refrigerator and plenty of cabinet space. Furnishings include a bed (twin), dresser, desk w/chair, sofa, coffee table, dining table and chairs.


ELIGIBILITY


To be eligible for single graduate student housing a student must: meet the requirements for admission to Syracuse University and qualify as a degree-seeking student as defined by his/her college during the period housing is required.

Graduate student housing is in high demand so priority is given to students who are eligible and complete the housing application on a first come first serve basis.

Parking and Shuttle Service

Parking permits are required in all University parking areas. Parking spaces are located close to each Slocum Heights building for students with cars. A commuter pass (CMTR) is the minimum permit required for Slocum Heights parking. It is also valid in any Main Campus employee lot after 5 p.m. If you wish to park on campus during the day, you must purchase a campus permit. Permits are available from Parking Services. When purchasing a permit, you will need a valid vehicle registration for each car and an SU I.D. or other official identification.

A free shuttle bus runs between Main Campus and South Campus approximately every 10 minutes during the week and hourly on weekends. There are numerous stops throughout South Campus as well as continuous stops at the Goldstein Student Center. Service runs from 7 a.m. to 3:20 a.m. weekdays.

Limited service is provided during academic vacations and summer sessions.

Goldstein Student Center

Located within South Campus are a variety of facilities. The Goldstein Student Center is located in the heart of the South Campus residential area and is the focal point for the community. The South Campus Housing Office and the Office of Residence Life are located in 206 Goldstein Student Center. The center provides dining facilities with satellite television, computers dedicated to e-mail and Internet access, an academic computer cluster, meeting space for organizations, a Cardio and Nautilus fitness room, a game room, laundry facilities, study lounges, TV lounge, a branch of the Syracuse University Bookstore, an ATM machine, the South Campus Housing Key Office, and a satellite office of the Department of Public Safety. Relocation Application (current residents)

The housing relocation application for students wanting to relocate for the spring semester will be available on November 12th, 2009, at 12 noon. Completing the application does not guarantee a relocation opportunity will arise. Any questions regarding this process can be directed to our Service Center in room 206 Steele Hall or via email, housing@syr.edu.
