ID Card Services - New Student IDs

Congratulations on your admission to Syracuse University. One of the many important tasks, early in your academic career, is obtaining your ID Card. Your card will serve as your official University identification along with allowing you access to residence halls, dining centers, snack operations, athletic facilities, library privileges, vending machines, Dome and Schine Box Office events, laundry services and Schine Copy Center.

Our office would like you to have access to all of these privileges upon your arrival to campus this fall. In order for you to avoid long ID card registration lines, at an already hectic time, we ask for your cooperation.

Please follow these steps to send your photo to produce your permanent SU ID card:

1. First of all, your syr.edu address must be activated, we will only accept this address. To access your official e-mail address, you must obtain your NetID. To do that, go to the NetID Web site at http://netid.syr.edu. MyMail is the University's Web-based e-mail system that students use to access their official syr.edu e-mail address. Information about using MyMail is available on the Web at http://its.syr.edu/email/mymail. For further questions, contact the Information Technology Services at 443-2677 or e-mail consult@syr.edu.

2. To upload your picture click here. Log in using your 9 digit ID number and your birthdate, ie mm/dd/yyyy

3. Indicate your status, ie Syracuse University Undergrad, Grad, Law student, SUNY ESF Undergrad or Grad

4. Attach a digital photo based on the factors listed below. It must be in jpeg format and less than or equal to 2 MB

5. You will be allowed to send one photo only. If we determine that it cannot be used, we will notify you that you have the option to send another

If, for some reason you cannot send a photo in this manner, you can mail a photo to us. An acceptable photo should be wallet size, a passport photo or a senior picture will be acceptable. All photos can be mailed to ID Card Services, Syracuse University, 202 Steele Hall, Syracuse, NY 13210-9981. Please indicate your name, id number and your status as listed above on a separate piece of paper, not on the back of the picture.

Please keep these factors in mind when selecting a photo:
1. a high-quality, clear, color photo with a plain background
2. a front view of your whole face, alone
3. taken within the last 3 months
4. taken in normal clothing without a hat or dark glasses

We will then produce your card and have it waiting at your residence hall when you check in. If you will not be living in a residence hall or if you are living at South Campus, we will have your card ready for pickup at Gate E of the Carrier Dome. Please note that we reserve the right not to use any photo that we do not see as appropriate. A temporary ID card will be produced and waiting at your residence hall if you do not send in a photo. All photos will be digitally stored in the University computer system for University use only.

I hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity. I know that it will lessen the burden put on the ID Card Office at registration time and I know it will save you a great deal of time. If for some reason you cannot participate, we will still be available to produce an ID card for you at the Carrier Dome. Dates and times will be provided to you upon your arrival on campus. Have a great summer, take some time to return this information and we wish you much luck and success during your time with us. If you have any questions, we can be reached at 315-443-2726.
