Application Process
The housing application process is an online process that you will access through the University web portal MySlice.
If you are a new freshmen or transfer student, you will receive an email from the Housing, Meal Plan, & I.D. Card Services Office once you have made your commitment to attend Syracuse University by returning the intent to register form and appropriate advance payments. At that time you will be able to select the Housing Application link after logging onto MySlice. Please view the tutorial via the link on our forms and downloads page.
Returning students will complete an application via a link within MyHousing which can only be accessed through MySlice.
In order to apply online you must return your Intent to Register form to Syracuse University and also make the advance tuition and housing payments.
The application is only valid for the semester in which you apply. If you defer your enrollment, you will be required to complete another online application for the semester you officially plan to attend (example defer Fall 2009 admission to start in Spring 2010 - you will complete the Spring 2010 application available in October).
The application to apply for housing is made available to you when you officially accept your admission to Syracuse University. Until that time you will not be able to access the housing application.
If you receive an error when accessing the system please contact the Housing Office at housing@syr.edu.
If you are admitted late to the University, which can happen particularly with transfer applicants, you should inquire directly to the Housing Office of availability. There will be a time when transfer applicants are no longer able to select on-campus housing due to space constraints from year to year.
If you decide to not attend Syracuse University there are refund deadlines established in the tuition and fees bulletin available on the Bursar website: Bursar Office. All new applicants must cancel their application in writing. Emails are accepted as long as they include your SUID, name, and reason you are canceling your application. Those emails should be directed to housing@syr.edu.
Once you have completed your application you should check out the information available about arriving at SU on the Orientation website, orientation.syr.edu. If you are interested in living with a person that you know is also going to be attending the University and the deadline has not passed, Important Dates, you will be able to confirm your roommate selection on-line during the designated dates.
Hall & Room Information
In total there are 21 residence halls on our campus. There are 18 halls on North Campus and three halls on South Campus. South Campus also has over 1000 apartments.
Butterfield House (all women), Lyons Hall, and Brockway hall are our only all-freshmen resident facilities. The majority of the remaining buildings are of mixed class (freshmen - senior) with the exception of Walnut Hall, Washington Arms, and Watson Hall. Those buildings are for upper-class students only.
Learning communities consist of groups of students living together with a common interest/major/purpose. Syracuse University offers a wide array of learning communities, all in which have a significant academic focus. Please contact the Office of Learning Communities directly at 315/443-2079 with any questions.
Our halls are all solid brick structures and vary in size and scope from small buildings housing less than forty students to larger halls housing over five-hundred. Buildings vary in size from just two floors to twenty. A complete and thorough description of all residence halls along with photos can be found under facility information.
Room sizes are similar across campus, but some vary slightly. The typical open double room has dimensions of 12'x13'.

Remember, less is better, however, there are certain things you must have; items for your bed such as pillows, blankets, and sheets. Items for your desk such as a desk lamp, and school supplies. General items for your room such as a waste basket, shower items, toiletries, linens, laundry basket/soap, fan (window/oscillating), computer, and television (non-consol model).
You will find more information about what to bring on the Orientation and Off-Campus Services web site. http://oocp.syr.edu/.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is smoking allowed in any Syracuse University facility - residential, academic and/or administrative.

Room Assignments
This process is designed to promote a fair and equitable system that is inclusive and encourages students from different backgrounds to live together. Housing assignments are made based on the random order and take into consideration learning community opportunities, mutual roommate requests, and documented special circumstances.
You will receive an email the last week in July to your Syracuse University email account that will inform you of your room assignment and contact information for your roommate.
In the event you don't receive your assignment at the same time as other students you may know; do not panic. Assigning applicants is a continuous process that may not be totally complete when the first wave of assignments are sent. You can email the Housing Office if you have a question but understand that the assignment will be sent as soon as the process has reached its conclusion.
Housing assignments will not be changed for any reason.
